Bholu Brothers challenged

KARACHI: Pakistan’s ‘untamed lion,’ Aslam, the illustrious brother of unbeaten world champion Bholu, will once against be seen in action in Karachi against two renowned world freestyle wrestlers who have thrown an open challenge to the Bholu Brothers.

The challengers — Paul Vachon of Canada popularly known as ‘Lumber Jack’ and Australian Clyde Kennedy popularly known as ‘Bone Crusher’ — who have fought more than a thousand times each are expected to reach Karachi within a fortnight.

Both challengers have, however, made the precondition that a foreign referee should conduct the bout. Ever willing to give their opponents all possible facility and chance, the Bholu Brothers have accepted the condition.

The bouts will be held by the end of this month or early next month under the joint auspices of the Pakistan Wrestling Association (PWA) and the East Pakistan Cyclone Relief Fund Committee. All net proceeds from the tournament would be donated to the relief fund.

This has become possible as the challengers have declared that their only intention to fight the Bholu Brothers was to “add a feather to their cap” and not to collect money.

According to Mr Salim Sadiq, Secretary of the PWA, the Bholu Brothers, who were urgently summoned from Lahore to start preparations for the ‘big day’, have already reached Karachi. Daily exercises are being supervised by Bholu Pahalvan. Those training are Aslam, the ‘untamed lion’ of Pakistan, Akram and Azam, both of whom have already established themselves as among the greatest fighters of the day.

Paul Vachon weighs 18 stone and six lbs and is over six feet tall. He is 36. The 34-year-old Kennedy weighs 18 stones and is six feet two inches tall. — Sports Correspondent
