‘Celebratory’ firing

OPENED up Dawn.com on the morning of August 16 and read about the ‘One dead and 30 injured due to celebratory firing in Karachi’.

"Celebratory firing". Really? In a country where so many die everyday due to terrorism, negligence, poverty, drone attacks, and crime; do we really need to celebrate the birth of a nation like this? Why can we not celebrate by doing something positive and constructive rather than firing into the air?

Disrupting the peace and posing a danger to ourselves and others is this a measure of our love for our country?

How about next 14th August, everyone pick up garbage off the streets instead or plant and adopt a tree in the neighbourhood?

Makes me shudder to think that one day someone would open the paper to read that we nuked ourselves in celebration!
