Saving Tharparkar peacocks

SINDH is the land of Sufis and saints. It is renowned for it throughout the world.

However, the beauty of Sindh is Tharparkar, and the beauty of Tharparkar is its peacocks, which have been dying for some time due to a disease known as Newcastle (ranikhet).

According to the Wildlife Department, the deaths of peacocks are caused by heat and thirst. At present many peacocks in Thar areas are found either dead or ill.

Last year 180 peacocks died due to the infectious disease, and recently more than 40 peacocks have died. If this tragedy continues, the natural beauty of Sindh will be no more there to attract and inspire people.

The Wildlife Department should do its utmost to save the peacocks instead of counting the number of dead ones.

Further, the use of vaccine can immediately help to end the disease. The step is crucial because it can prevent other birds and animals from the effect of the viral disease.
