Neglected archaeological sites

BUILDERS, vandals and tomb raiders have taken the beautiful engraved stone slabs from Chowkhandi and Makli, the world famous necropolis, the Soonda graveyard and other archaeological sites of Sindh. At least 40 seals were stolen from Moenjodaro Museum several years ago. But, unfortunately, nothing has been done to retrieve them.

Lakhanjodaro, a site of Indus civilization, is also under threat from builders. Hyderabad once remained the capital of Sindh. The Kalhoras’ tombs, Talpurs’ tombs and other historical monuments are under threat by encroachers, vandals, and thieves. which need the immediate attention of the Sindh archaeological department.

The Hyderabad Fort, a glorious past of the Kalhora period, is also waning and disappearing from the scene. All these historical sites in Sindh need immediate attention.
