Four brothers among six fishermen drown

KARACHI, Aug 11: Six fishermen, including four brothers, drowned in the sea near Port Qasim on Saturday evening, officials said on Sunday.They said that fishermen of Usmanabad Town in Korangi went to the sea in a boat near the Karachi Electric Supply Company’s thermal power plant at Port Qasim for fishing.

They threw a net into the sea and it appeared that it had got torn and four of the six fishermen tried to mend it when they drowned, the officials said.

Bin Qasim SHO Huzoor Bux Solangi said that two others also drowned in a bid to save their four relatives.

The bodies were fished out and handed over to their relatives for burial.

Four of the victims were brother and the two others were their brother-in-law and nephew.

The area SHO said that it was a prohibited area for fishing and this year, even no one was allowed to visit the Russian beach to avoid any eventuality.

The victims were identified as Noor Muhammad, 40, Molvi Zubair Ahmed, 35, Tahir, 22, and Noor Islam, 20, sons of the late Sultan and their relatives Inayat Qasim, 35, and Salam.
