Watchman foils attack on school in Khar

KHAR, Aug 6: A watchman foiled an attempt of attack on government school by unidentified militants in Lashora area of Khar tehsil in Bajaur Agency on Tuesday evening.

People of Lashora area and administration officials said that a group of militants tried to enter a government primary school in the area to blow up the building with hand grenades, but the watchman of the school opened fire on them.

They said that afterwards the residents of nearby villages and members of village defence committees also sprang into action and opened fire on the attackers. The elders and peace committee members also started a search operation, but the militants escaped.

An official said that the militants had come prepared to conduct terror activities in the area and destroy the school building, but the timely action of the school watchman and people of the area foiled their plan. This was the first time that local people and peace volunteers frustrated an attempt of attack by militants on public property in the agency.

Unknown miscreants had destroyed a government girl’s primary school in Rashakai area of Khar on August 3. Later, the administration arrested six persons with the help of sniper dogs and these people are still under interrogation in Khar prison. — Correspondent
