11 killed, 28 injured in two accidents
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, May 24: At least 11 people were killed and 28 others injured in two accidents on Saturday.
Six people were killed and 15 others were injured when a passenger bus plunged into a canal on Dera Ismail Khan-Chashma road, some 20 kilometres from here on Saturday morning.
A speedy bus No DLN-665 carrying 45 passengers from Rawalpindi to Dera Ismail Khan fell from an overhead bridge near Mandra village and plunged into a canal while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a donkey-cart. As a result six people were killed on the spot and 15 others were injured.
The injured were rushed to the DHQ Teaching hospital where five of them were stated to be in critical condition.
The dead were identified as Faqir Abdul Haleem son of Kareem Bakhsh, Kareem Bakhsh son of Muzafar a resident of village Lar, Mianra son of Maishki, Ghulam Jan Wapda lineman residents of village Kot Jai, Zafar Abbas son of Khadam Hussain owner of the bus resident of Mianwali and Ghulam Rasool owner of a medical store in village Said Alian.
However, few passengers were still missing and reportedly trapped into the bus underwater. The army divers rescue operation is under way to save their lives.
Our Mansehra correspondent adds: At least five people, including a woman, were killed and 13 others injured when a passenger van fell into a ravine near Batrasi on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses told Dawn that the van (MA-3196) on way to Ghari Habibullah from here fell into a deep ravine when the driver lost control over it near Batrasi.
Two Afghan refugees, Hafizullah, son of Mohammad Din, and Haji Mir, son of Lal Mir; Fazal Karim, son of Abdul Malik Bassikhail, a resident of Kala Dhaka; Sajida Naz, daughter of Furqan Shah, a resident of Joscha, Balakot; and Mohammad Rafique were killed and 13 others received injuries.
The dead and injured were brought by the people and police to the district headquarters teaching hospital here and the Ayub Hospital Complex in Abbottabad.
The driver, Tanveer, son of Malik Aman, a resident of Reerh, and conductor Riyasat, son of Bashir, a resident of Attarshisha, were shifted to the Ayub Hospital Complex.
Those admitted to the DHQ hospital were: Amir Jan, son of Gul Khatab, an Afghan refugee; Asif Shah, son of Aashiq Shah, a resident of Doga Takiya; Baseer, son of Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Baila Mutraian; Ameen, son of Kalum Din, a resident of Laberkot; Yaqoob, son of Mandra, a resident of Datta; Iftikhar, son of Bashir, a resident of Brarkot and Rahi Bakhsh, son of Sher Mohammad, a resident of Kot Addu.
