Truck laden with arms seized in Karachi

KARACHI, July 23: Two suspects were detained and a truck laden with arms and ammunition was seized in the city on Tuesday with police claiming that they had foiled a sabotage activity planned for Youm-i-Ali.

DIG South Dr Ameer Sheikh said police intercepted the vehicle on Super Highway near Sohrab Goth and found weapons kept in its hidden portions.

He said two suspects traveling on the truck, coming from Peshawar, had been detained.

The DIG said that suspects belonged to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi organisation and told interrogators that the weapons were to be used in carrying out killings in the city on Youm-i-Ali on 21st of Ramazan.

He said the weapons, including five Kalashnikovs and a light machinegun, were of American and European make.
