Suspected robber killed

RAWALPINDI, May 7: Police killed a suspected robber while his accomplice was caught by onlookers on Tuesday.

During the robbery attempt, Tayyab Shams Shah’s wife and son Suleman, 25, were shot and injured by gunmen.

The injured woman and her son were taken to Holy Family Hospital where they were stated to be out of danger.

Mohammad Imran, a resident of the area, told Dawn that Mr Shah was at home when someone rang the doorbell at 2:30pm.

As he came out, he found two persons standing outside who told him that they had brought a parcel from a bank.

They pushed Mr Shah entered the house. When the inmates resisted, the robbers shot Ms Nagina and her son Suleman, Imran said.

In the meantime, Mr Shah’s daughter ran upstairs and shouted for help. Imran said on hearing the girl’s cry, he called the emergency police who immediately reached the scene.

The police in an exchange of fire killed one of the robbers while his accomplice was caught by people who had gathered in the street.

The suspected robber, who was killed in the shoot-out, was identified as Rameez Khan and his accomplice as Saleem Khan.

According to Rana Mohammad Akbar, a police sub-inspector investigating the case, during preliminary investigation the arrested suspect told the police that one of the relatives of Mr Shah had masterminded the robbery.
