Over 100 held in Swat

MINGORA, April 20: Police rearrested more than 100 ‘former militants’ in Swat to maintain peace in the district during the upcoming general elections, sources said.

They said that raids were being conducted to arrest the remaining former militants in the district.

The caretaker provincial government had directed police in Swat to arrest those people, who remained associated with militants in the past, for maintenance of peace during the elections, they added.

Sources said that provincial government issued directives to Swat administration to arrest more than 200 former militants belonging to category A. The lists of the former militants were issued to the police stations concerned in Swat.

The former militants, arrested under 3 MPO, were sent to Chitral and Karak jails, sources said.
