TAXILA, July 5: The residents of Taxila blocked the Rawalpindi-Peshawar patch of G. T. Road at Nawababad on Friday for over two hours to protest the killing of a man by his rivals.

Umer Arshad was attacked by his rivals when he was going to a local court along with his uncle Mohammad Zahid last Saturday when his political rival Umer Farrooq beat him and his uncle, using sticks and rods.

They were taken to hospital where on Umer Arshad succumbed to his injuries.

The death of Umer, the sole bread earner of his family, sparked unrest in the area.

His family members took the body to the main G.T. Road at Nawababad and placed it in the middle of the road. They also burnt tyres to block the main artery for all kinds of traffic.

The protesters, mostly women, condemned the cold blood murder of the young man in elections and police reluctance to arrest the murderers.
