Library

This is with reference to the letter “Library” by Umair Tanveer (YW, June 8, 2013). I would like to appreciate Umair for highlighting this issue which has not been given much importance here.Library is a place where everyone can develop his intellectual abilities and lack of libraries, of course, hinders the learning process. Visiting a library cultivates a habit of reading that helps us in every way. I would like to advise that you must visit your school or college library regularly and read the books, newspapers and magazines available there. If you are fortunate to have a library near your house, you must avail its facilities.I also request the authorities to avoid load-shedding during school hours so that students can study without any difficulty.Ali Mehdi,KarachiA pair of shoes

This is with reference to the story “I am a pair of shoes” by Hasan Saad (YW, June 8, 2013). The story made me realise that we should not take any of our belongings for granted as whatever we have, it’s for a purpose and is useful for us. So be it our shoes, clothes, books or anything else, we must take proper care of everything.Tooba Ahmed Alvi,KarachiProtesting through violence: necessary?

‘Say what you want to but never say it with violence!’ Gerard Way said this and we cannot deny that this statement does hold quite a lot of truth.Nowadays unfairness and blatant corruption makes us protest but I see no reason of doing protesting with violence.People burn tyres, destroy buildings, sometimes kill and resort to all other types of violence for protesting. Is this proper protest? Absolutely not! If we really and truly want to protest we can do it without the aid of violence! It is extremely frustrating not to have electricity for hours in this blazing hot summer but this does not mean that we burn tyres which are made of rubber and if we are burning rubber this means that we are wasting rubber and after one or two years we would be protesting over lack of rubber! So you see what we do now will somehow or the other impact us in the future. Also the burning of rubber causes lots of harmful gases to release in the air and these harmful gases cause a lot of air pollution including destroying life on earth and also harming the ozone layer which protects us from harmful rays (called ultraviolet radiation) which causes skin cancer and other deadly diseases. We protest over lack of gas (usually CNG) but do we peacefully protest or by destroying the natural resources that we already have. It is not as if I am saying that we should not protest, of course we should protest, but we should never do it with violence!Ayesha Sahar Mirza,KarachiHollywood stars

I have been reading your magazine for last five years and I’m addicted to it. I love everything you put in it. The stories are just amazing.I have a request; please print something about international celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Jensen Ackles, etc.Rutaba Amjad,Karachi
