Toy bomb kills girl in Dir

TIMERGARA, June 28: A girl was killed while six others were injured when a toy bomb went off at Lapakai village of Maidan on Friday, residents and police told Dawn.

They said a girl took the toy bomb to her house after she found it in a nearby dry nullah.

As other children and women of the house gathered around the girl, the toy in her hand exploded with a bang, killing her on the spot. Three women, two boys and a girl of the same family were also injured.

Police said the injured were taken to Lal Qilla hospital. It was not clear whether the toy bomb was thrown there recently or it was lying since long.

The police registered case and started investigation. The Maidan area of Dir Lower had once a stronghold of the proscribed TTP where military operation was launched in 2009.

APP adds from Peshawar: A blast took place near a checkpost of Khasadar Force in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency on Friday morning. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.

According to political administration officials, unknown miscreants had planted explosives near the check post during night time in Tedy Bazaar on Pak-Afghan Highway that went off with a bang at about 8am on Friday. They said no one was at the check post at the time of the blast.

The Khasadar Force personnel cordoned off the area and started search to arrest the culprits.
