Two children die of measles in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT, June 25: Two children died of measles in Bakhmal Ahmadzai village of Tajori town in Lakki Marwat district.

Sources said that several children were affected by measles in Bakhmal Ahmadzai and the adjacent villages. They said that two-year-old Wajidullah and five-month-old Sania fell prey to the disease.

Inamullah, a social activist, said that shortage of facilities at local health facilities was the main cause of the deaths. “The villagers have to take their patients to Bannu and Lakki,” he added.

Dr Abdul Rehman, the deputy district officer health, when contacted, said that measles related deaths had not been reported to the district health department from the area so far. He said that health department had already carried out vaccination drive in Ahmadzai and theadjacent villages to protect children from measles.

The official said that they would investigate the matter and launch a fresh vaccination drive against measles if needed.

KILLED: Two persons were killed and seven others injured in road accidents in different parts of the district.

In Ihsanpur area, a tractor ran over a minor girl Sania and killed her instantly. Yaseen Mohammad, the uncle of the deceased, nominated Mohammad Din in the FIR.

In another incident, driver Momeen was killed and five other persons including three women were injured when a jeep collided with a motorcar near Gandi Adda on Indus Highway. The injured were identified as Raheela Bibi, Mamot Bibi, Tasleem Bibi, Saeed Akhtar and Abdul Rehman.

In Lakki city, two motorcyclists were injured when a speedy passenger coach hit them near Meenakhel Bridge.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested a proclaimed offender and seized weapons from the hideouts of criminals on Tuesday. —Correspondent
