No difference between attack on university students in Quetta and Malala: Asma Jehangir

QUETTA: Well-known human rights activist, Asma Jehangir said that the deadly bombing at the Women University of Quetta left every rational person of society grief stricken.

Talking to reporters after meeting Jamhoori Watan Party Chief, Talal Akbar Bugti on Sunday, she said that the killing of innocent university students was a cruel and barbaric act. “There is no difference between the attack on Malala and the martyrs of Quetta,” she said, adding that the attack on vulnerable students was condemnable.

She said that the attack on the girls was an attempt on the part of a mindset to close the doors of education for females.

Regarding the Balochistan situation, she said that the number of missing persons was increasing. She however stated that the newly elected government appeared to be determined to normalise the situation.

She also praised the Supreme Court for taking up the missing persons cases in Balochistan. She said she had held a series of meetings with human rights activists and officials to get maximum information about issues pertaining to the province and that the “meetings were positive.” She said that civil society, political parties and state institutions must be on one page to find a political solution.
