National Games in Islamabad: Qamaruddin named Sindh contingent’s chef-de-mission
KARACHI, June 22: Qamaruddin Shaikh, Chairman SOA was named as chef-de-mission of Sindh contingent for the 32nd National Games 2013, to be held in Islamabad from June 28 to July 4.
Usama Qadri, president of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) announced Qamaruddin’s nomination on Saturday. He also named Abdul Razzak Arain as deputy chef-de-mission (men), Sadia Quershi deputy chef-de-mission (women), Saleem Paracha as the contingent secretary, Akhtar Khan Durrani as the contingent treasurer and Mohammad Akram as admin officer.
The SOA president also gave his approval to the list of 300 sportspersons from Sindh who will take part in the Games. Men in the Sindh contingent will participate in 17 disciplines while women will feature in 10 disciplines.
The contingent will leave for Islamabad by train on Tuesday, June 25. The various provincial sports associations who announced the names of players for participation in the Games include athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, judo, karate, netball, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis and tug of war.
SOA chairman Qamaruddin also announced that cash prizes and rewards will be given to those Sindh players who will win medals in the National Games.—Agencies
