Young banker shot dead in ‘sectarian’ attack

KARACHI, May 27: A young banker was gunned down in an Orangi Town locality in what police described as an attack carried out on sectarian grounds on Monday.

The police said that Syed Arshad Abbas Naqvi aka Haider Ali, 25, left his residence in Islam Nagar and was on his way to a private bank, his workplace, on his motorcycle when gunmen, also riding a motorcycle, targeted him near Haider Chowk. The victim was hit by five bullets fired by a 9mm pistol, the police said.

Another motorcyclist, identified as Juma Khan, also suffered bullet wounds in the attack, said the Pakistan Bazaar police.

The victim was associated with the Pak Hyderi Scout.

Orangi Town SP Asad Ali said that the killing appeared to be have been motivated by sectarian considerations.

The dead and the wounded were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The area SHO said that the victim was identified as Imam Bux Baloch, 25.

He said that apparently the victim was targeted by the elements of the Lyari gang warfare.
