Balochistan: infiltrators in police

INFILTRATIONS of criminals, extremists and terrorist helpers in the security agencies have shocked the people of Balochistan.

This year the saga begins in January when three Criminal Investigation Department’s high-ranking officers were arrested by Frontier Corps personnel on charges of kidnapping and ransom in a raid and victim Abdul Qadoos was recovered.

In addition, two policemen -- an ASI and a constable -- were arrested for having connections, providing assistance and information to terrorists and the banned group (Lashker-i-Jangvi).

Moreover, the escape of two terrorists of LeJ, M. Umar Lehri and Ahmad Lehri, to Mastung from high security zone in Quetta Cantt, has put a question mark on the ability and performance of the Balochistan police.

The tales do not end here. On May 21, SHO Ewaz Ali Hazara was shot dead by a constable driver, Naiamatullah, of Gulistan Police Station of Killa Abdullah district.

All these incidents and tragedies have demoralised people in the province. They have lost confidence in security agencies. The involvement of the police and related agencies in crimes and killings on a sectarian basis has raised questions about the security of the common man. Extremists have infiltrated security agencies. The government must come up with a strategy to clear all law-enforcement agencies of intruders.
