SUSPENDED: The Khyber Agency administration on Monday suspended services of a number of Khasadars and a naib subedar on charges of negligence from duty and initiated an inquiry against them.

Assistant Political Agent Jamrud Jahangir Azam Wazir told local journalists that surveillance at all checkposts was enhanced after a surge in armed attacks on Nato vehicles in recent weeks and strict orders were issued to the Khasadar and Levies forces to guard the road.

He said that he conducted several surprise visits at various checkposts and found dozens of Khasadars and other officials absent from duty. He said that naib subedar Hamid Afridi was also among the absentees and was thus suspended. He said Hamid Khan had hired 27 private persons for his own service while he himself rarely performed his duty. — Correspondent
