KARACHI, Dec 6: A judicial magistrate released on Thursday a former executive district officer for education on bail in a case pertaining to the kidnapping of a schoolteacher.

Retired EDO Gul Mohammad Hajiano, aged around 70, said to be a legal practitioner, and his son-in-law, Wafa Hussain, were arrested on Dec 5 within the remit of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station for allegedly abducting the woman.

As soon as the police produced the suspects before the court of a judicial magistrate for remand on Thursday, a dozen of lawyers moved a bail application for the release of Hajiano.

Judicial magistrate (east) Ali Ahmed granted bail to the applicant against the surety bond of Rs50,000 apparently due to age factor while the other suspect was sent to prison on judicial remand.

According to the prosecution, Amber Sultana was employed as a government schoolteacher with the help of the former EDO about a decade ago and a few years later he allegedly blocked her salary after she turned down his marriage proposal.

However, the woman managed to get her salary restored after going through a lengthy litigation. Thereafter, he allegedly harassed her. On Dec 5, Wafa and Saqib Ali abducted the victim and took her to a flat where Hajiano was present and they subjected her to torture, the prosecution said. However, the victim somehow managed to call police helpline 15 and the police rescued her, it added.

A case (FIR No 675/2012) was lodged under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 337-A (i) (punishment of Shajjah) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

It may be recalled here that Gul Mohammad Hajano is father of Mohammad Ali Hajiano, who was booked in 32 cases including the infamous White Corolla case.
