QUETTA: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday said that the people considered the judiciary as their saviour and the judicial policy’s advantages had started reaching out to the citizens, DawnNews reported.
Speaking to a meeting of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) in Quetta, Chief Justice Iftikhar said that decisions in the country should be made on the basis of merit, adding that, it was everyone’s responsibility to ensure the dispensation of justice.
Moreover, the chief justice said that the solution to the people’s problems lay in rule of law, adding that, a just society was vital to the development of a strong economy.
“We are trying to deliver justice to the people at their door steps,” Chief Justice Iftikhar said.
He further said that the number of pending cases had also declined in the subordinate courts.
Chief justices of the high courts of the four provinces, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and the Federal Shariat Court were also present during the meeting.

Yes it is correct that the majority of the Pakistanis in Pakistan & abroad consider the current
judiciary as honest, impartial & highly professional. In the current judicial system the peoples are convinced that justice has been done a justice, no one is being victimized as was seen in the past.

I am grateful for what Judiciary has achieved due to one man's (CJ) determination over the last few years. Zardari would have sold the country and disappeared by now if we didn't have powerful Judiciary.

Not all judiciary is honest and doing it's job well. There is so much corruption in the lower courts. Only the higher courts (the Supreme Court and the High Courts) are clean. The Supreme Court is particularly doing well; the credit goes to Justice Iftikhar Choudry, who is exceptionally good.

when the CJ says judiciary he means " Ch IFITIKHAR ". the guy has an "ego" of mega proportions . he should stop bragging and get on with the job. judiciary at lower level is corrupt beyond redemption , so his statement about judiciary as a whole is unpalatable .

Yes,it is everyone's responsibility to ensure dispensation of justice; but more so of those who had sworne to uphold the Constitution,save it & protect it ,but were ready to legalise the occupation of Pakistsan by a Dictator and his junta in 1999,through a judgment on ZafarvAli Shah's Case.The H.CJ who has been a beneficiary of NRO and reinstated because of it has another chance to prove that he belives in doing justice; the Arsalan Iftikhar case.

I FEEL SUPREME COURT HAS WASTED TIME TO TARGET ONE POLITICAL PARTY. INSTEAD OF FIGHTING SUPERMACY BATTLE WITH PARLIAMENT, ATTENTION SHOULD BE PAID ON ARSLAN CASE. THIS CASE WILL PROVE VERY DAMAGING FORJUDICIARY

Perhaps Nawaz Sharief and his gang consider the supreme court as their savior. As for people? There are thousands of innocents rotting away in jail without being charged. Has the CJ taken notice? He appears to enjoy taking on political cases.

Justice cannot be delivered until POLICE do their job properly, honestly. and efficiently. In most cases a proofs of the crimes are ignored, not probed minutely, or sold out.

I always thought Mr. Chaudhary had a "saviour complex." The above statement by him proves me right. Throughout human history, those who indulged in abuse of power and set principles as they went along suffered from this complex. With such a statement, how can the CJ claim that his verdicts are governed by the requirements of justice, not public opinion?

Only an accountable judiciary can be the saviour of the people,and not non-accountable judiciary. The judiciary of my dreams is - transparency in its functioning,no threat of contempt of court laws,analysis of judgements,and live telecast of courts's functioning. The most important is - accountability for judgements delivered,and laws for litigants' protection.
