Karachi, Sept 23: Sindh Minister for Law and Prisons Ayaz Soomro disclosed on Sunday that over 690 appeals of convicted prisoners in the jails of Hyderabad division had been pending in courts for many years.

While expressing concern over a report by the Hyderabad Prisons DIG Gulzar Channa, the law minister said that the prisoners should receive early justice since the delay in appeals was a source of mental agony to them and their families.

“It is the basic right of a prisoner that his appeal is heard timely,” said Mr Soomro. He also appealed to the courts to dispose of the appeals at the earliest instead of focusing on political cases.—PPI
