ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: Monsoon which has now entered in its last phase, will take into its grip most parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in the next couple of days, resulting in widespread rains, Pakistan Meteorological Department announced on Sunday.

The monsoon currents of moderate intensity are expected to penetrate continuously over upper parts of the country in next couple of days and will grip most parts of Punjab and KPK, during mid-week and Sindh and eastern Balochistan during the week-end.

The intensity of monsoon currents is very likely to increase from mid-week, according to Arif Mahmood,  Director-General of Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Met Office also announced that some vulnerable areas may receive heavy rains during next two weeks. National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) Islamabad and all Regional Centres are closely monitoring the active monsoon rains in coming days and will inform the concerned authorities about the situation before time.

The Met Office advised all concerned authorities to remain alert in next two weeks. Met Office stated that monsoon would be very active in South Asia, during next two weeks, and its currents have started to penetrate over upper parts of Pakistan that will spread southward during mid week, giving widespread rains in the country during the week.

Met Office further stated that Bay of Bengal, major feeder of monsoon currents, has become active and two weather systems are expected to develop in Bay of Bengal in next couple of weeks that would produce widespread rains in South Asia.
