KARACHI: The Franchise Commission yesterday issued a nine-point questionnaire to elicit public opinion on the future system of franchise in the country.

The questionnaire has been issued in three languages — English, Bengali and Urdu — and copies are being supplied through the Deputy Commissioners in both the Wings of the country.

The questions cover the electoral college, enlargement of the electoral college, adult franchise, restricted adult franchise, qualifications of voters, the election of President, etc.

Replies to the questionnaire are to be sent to the Franchise Commission before September 30. Those who want to be heard in person have been asked to say so in their replies.

The tour programme of the Commission will be drawn up after the receipt of replies. Interviews will be held by the Franchise Commission on the basis of these replies.

The Franchise Commission has already started sending questionnaires to the district officers, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, Vice-Chancellors of universities, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, etc.

The Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to send copies, among others, to Principals of colleges, prominent members of Bar Associations, Chairmen of Basic Democracies and such other persons as they think would be able to make some contribution by expressing their views on the subject.—Staff Correspondent
