ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said that legislation is the right of parliament. He said that no government office has the right to intervene in the legislative process.

The information minister, while addressing a seminar on civil-military relations in Islamabad, said that successive martial law regimes have weakened government departments and the country overall.

He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party kept its past mistakes in consideration when working on its policy of reconciliation and avoided confrontation between different government institutions.

He also clearly stated that the government is not in any confrontation with the judiciary.

Kaira also said the Contempt of Court law was passed by the parliament, and if the judiciary has any objections, they should be addressed.

While addressing the seminar, the federal information minister stated that society and institutions have to function in harmony, and that attitudes take time to form, and that to understand change in society, the dynamics of the civil, military, judicial relationships have to be taken into account.

MQM’s Dr Farooq Sattar also addressed the audience, and added that civil-military relations have never been good, putting emphasis on the need of Aizaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan package and allowing Baloch sardars residing abroad to return and contest in elections.
