LAHORE, Aug 6: Governor Sardar Latif Khosa says how Arsalan Iftikhar, son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, became a millionaire just in three years.

"How did Arslan earn Rs900 million (in three year)?” he said, adding, “No common man could go to Monte Carlo for gambling. Only a millionaire can go there.”

He alleged that the Supreme Court registrar had made all such arrangements for Arsalan.

“Will anybody tell us how a grade-17 employee earned Rs900 million in three years? Such an employee hardly meets both ends,” he told reporters at an Iftar dinner hosted by PPP Punjab information secretary Raja Amir at his residence on Monday. He demanded that the chief justice get the issue probed.

The governor said the people would have the final say as the Supreme Court did not accept the power of parliament. Despite all reservations on the court’s decisions the PPP government would accept them. He said the Supreme Court had removed Yousuf Raza Gilani from the office of the prime minister but the people elected his son (Abdul Qadir) giving their verdict (in a by-poll).

Mr Khosa said it was the prerogative of parliament to elect and remove a prime minister and all institutions should work within the ambit of constitution. He said if another unconstitutional decision came the government would accept it and would not let democracy derailed.

He said earlier the judges’ decisions spoke but now their statements foretold about their verdicts. — Staff Reporter
