KARACHI, May 7: An anti-terrorism court extended on Monday the police remand of a man allegedly involved in the killing of three policemen as well as a senior worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and his brother till May 12.

Suspect Ibrahim along with his absconding accomplices has been booked for allegedly killing Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhani Bakhsh and constables Nisar and Ramzan on April 4 and the senior activist of MQM, Mansoor Mukhtar, and his brother Masood Mukhtar on March 27 within the remit of the PIB Colony police station.

The police had arrested the suspect in the Defence area on April 27 after an encounter and claimed that during interrogations he disclosed to his involvement in both the cases.

On April 28, the court remanded the suspect in police custody till May 5. Following the expiry of his remand, the investigation officer produced the suspect before Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I on Monday and sought extension in the remand stating that the investigation was still underway while the identification parade in one of the cases had not been conducted yet.

The court remanded the suspect in police custody till May 12 and directed the IO to produce him on the next hearing along with a progress report about the investigations. The two cases were registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the PIB Colony police station.

Notice issued on bail plea

A sessions court issued on Monday a notice to the prosecution to argue on the bail application of an accused facing trial in a triple murder case.

Rehan Khan Niazi and Tazeen alias Jasmine have been charged with killing a legal adviser of the Karachi Electric Supply Company, Advocate Fahim-ul-Karim, and Wajid Mughal and Qurrat-ul-Ain alias Ainee

in the apartment-cum-office of Mr Karim on Sept 5, 2011 in Defence Housing Authority.

Accused Niazi, through his lawyer, moved the bail application before Additional District and Sessions Judge (south) Javed Ahmed Keerio, who is conducting the trial at the judicial complex inside the central prison.

The court issued notice to the prosecutor for May 14.

A case (FIR 340/11) was registered under Section 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Defence police station. The accused were arrested a week after the incident.
