PESHAWAR, March 8: The Pakistan Sikh Youth Council (PSYC) has expressed concern over reports about alleged forced conversion of Hindu girls to Islam in Sindh province, requesting the chief justice of Pakistan to take sou motu notice of the issue.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, PSYC chairman Radesh Singh Tony alleged that MNA Mian Mitto had so far forced 20 Hindu girls in his area to marry Muslim boys for change of religion.

"More than 80 Hindu families have already migrated to India because of the highhandedness of the MNA, who has tried to compel many Hindu girls to covert them to Islam," Mr Tony said.

He said that 19-year-old Hindu girl Rinkal Kumari was already married but the MNA, also a feudal of Mirpur Mathelo town in Sindh, forced her to embrace Islam without her consent. "It is a violation of women rights," he added.

Flanked by Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf women leaders Asmat Khattak, Farzana Sultan, Saiqa and Shamim Sabira, Mr Tony said that Rinkal Kumari was first forced to convert to Islam and then she was married off to the son of the MNA.

"Islam does not allow forced conversion. The concerned MNA is defaming our religion by using un-Islamic ways of compelling non-Muslims to convert," said PTI women leaders on the occasion.
