LAHORE, June 8: Sabzazar police on Wednesday registered a murder case against two unidentified people and took a middle-aged man into custody for interrogation in connection with the killing of his son-in-law. Baber Jamal, a stenographer at the Governor's House, was shot dead outside his wife's home allegedly by two unidentified people in Saidpur Shah Fareed Shrine locality in the small hours of Wednesday.

Initial police investigation showed Baber was adopted by Hameedan Bibi, wife of Aslam alias Talat Hussain, 13 years ago.

Baber married Aslam's daughter Amina three years ago, without his (Aslam's) consent and started living in their house.

After Hameedan died a few months ago, Aslam started asking Baber to leave his house but in vain. They had a quarrel over the issue three months ago.

As Jehangir, brother of Baber, suspected involvement of Aslam in the murder, police took the accused in custody under section 109 (Punishment of abetment if the Act abetted committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) of the PPC. Meanwhile, police handed over the body to the family after an autopsy.

Police suspected that the alleged killers committed the crime at the behest of Aslam.
