NOWSHERA, June 3: A man and his wife were killed by the latter’s brothers in an honour-related incident while one of the attackers was shot dead by villagers here at Taru area on Friday, local police said.

They claimed that Hashim Khan and his wife, daughter of Siraj, were on their way to Peshawar from Nowshera in their car when her father and brothers, Zahid and Rahid, ambushed them at Toru Chowk on the GT Road. As a result, Hashim and his wife died on the spot.

Sources said that following the couple’s death the enraged villagers killed Zahid as they took him for a dacoit. In a related development, the police arrested Rahid while his father escaped.

They said that police had shown the killing of Zahid in cross-firing. The attackers belonged to Badbher area of Peshawar.

The motive behind the killings is stated to be the marrying of Siraj’s daughter with Hashim, which they did secretly with their free will.

When contacted, a doctor at the Pabbi Hospital said that the three bodies were lying in the hospital and they had been waiting for the relatives to collect them.

Pabbi police registered the FIR of the case and have started investigation.
