CHAKWAL, Jan 21: A woman was shot dead by robbers here on Thursday night when she raised hue and cry to seek help, sources told Dawn.

Amir Hussain, resident of Saba Zer village, told the police that he along with his wife and two children was coming to his village from Khanpur on motorbike.

When he reached near Arrar village, two masked men stopped him. They dragged him aside and started to frisk him. Meanwhile, his wife Nadia Bibi tried to call somebody for help. At this, they opened fire on her killing her on the spot. The robbers managed to escape taking with them cash, mobile phone and motorbike.

In another incident, Amanat Ali was looted by two armed youngsters at gunpoint as he was sitting at his general store. The armed looters took away cash and mobile phone.

Similarly a gang of robbers looted three persons who were coming home on a rickshaw. They looted cash, mobile phones and other valuables. Meanwhile, a robber tried to kill himself when he saw a police vehicle.

Two robbers robbed Muzaffar Iqbal, resident of Thaneel Fatohi village, and were on their way when Station House Officer of City Police Station Malik Sonda Khan encountered them.

Seeing the police vehicle, a dacoit identified as Shahbaz Nazir fired at himself and got injured while his other accomplice Mohsin Shah managed to escape. The injured robber was taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi for treatment.—A Correspondent
