KABUL: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said parliamentarians of both Pakistan and Afghanistan can play a positive role to bring people of both the countries closer.

Gilani said this while speaking to the leader of the Afghan Lower House of Parliament, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq here at the Presidential Palace.

The Prime Minister said both the countries have great potential and resources to share with each other. The relationship thus established will benefit not only the two countries but the entire region, he added.

The leadership of both the countries, the Prime Minister said, need to form a comprehensive strategy to bring about peace and prosperity in the region.

Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq said the relations between the two countries were improving and there are signs of goodwill and sincerity, adding that the two countries needed to benefit from this.

He also called for enhanced trade and economic cooperation.

Also discussed was the transit trade agreement with Afghanistan which would allow trucks from Afghanistan to transport goods to India through Pakistan via the Wagah border. – APP
