LAHORE, Nov 23: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Tuesday to have recovered Rs47 million from the contractors involved in the railways Rs200 million scrap scam.

According to FIA spokesman Haroon Rashid, eleven contractors and officials have been arrested so far in this connection. “Another sum of Rs50 million is expected to be recovered from them,” he said.

He said two grade-19 officials of the railways involved in the scam were on interim bail while four others were absconding. He said the scam surfaced early this year and the anti-corruption wing of the agency registered a case against the accused under sections 409, 420, 468, 471, 109 and 54 (2) 7 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
