NOWSHERA The cantonment and Badrashi areas of the district came under missile attack on Saturday. Six houses were partially damaged during the attack but no casualty was reported.

Police said that the Russian-made 107mm missiles, with firing range of 10 to 12 kilometres, were fired from a graveyard in Badrashi area. Three suspected men from the area were arrested soon after the incident.

Sources said that three of the missiles hit houses in Badrashi village while one missile fell on a house in the Nowshera Cantonment.

Sources said that a missile hit the house of one Fayyaz as a result the house was partially damaged. Residents said that the family escaped unhurt as members had come out of the rooms due to power outage in the area.

Another missile fell on the house of Rohail Khan damaging the roof.

However, the family remained unhurt. A nearby house was also damaged when a missile hit the area. Another missile hit the house of Bashir Mohammad in the Regi Mohallah. Houses in the neighbourhood were damaged in the attack.

Officials said that a missile hit the house of Liaquat Ali Shah in the Khushal Colony near the Sarafa Bazaar in Nowshera Cantonment. The house was partially damaged. Nobody in the house was hurt.

District Police Officer Nisar Ahmad Tanoli and DSP Aziz Khan along with a heavy contingent of police reached the area soon after the missile attack.

The police cordoned off the area and initiated search for the attackers. DSP Aziz Khan said that the missiles were fired from the hillock near the graveyard at Badrashi village.

The police have recovered a sack and other equipments used for firing the missiles from the site. He said that three suspects were arrested.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies initiated a search operation in Kaka Sahib, Walai, Tangi Khattak and Badrashi areas to capture the attackers.
