LAHORE Jamat-ud-Dawa Ameer (chief) Hafiz Muhammad Saeed was put under house arrest for three months under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) and his organization`s headquarters situated at Chauburji Chowk was also sealed by the police on Thursday.

A police official told Dawn that Hafiz Saeed had been detained at his Johar Town residence with police deployment.

He said two active members of the newly-banned organization, one of them Ameer Hamza, had also been detained while detention orders of 12 others had also been issued by the provincial home department.

However, another police official claimed raids were in progress to detain three active members — Ameer Hamza, Yahya Mujahid and Abu Umer — under the same detention orders.

He said crackdown had been launched against the members of Jamat-ud-Dawa following a government directive.

Police sealed no less than seven rooms of Qadsia Mosque, headquarter of Jamatud Dawa, with religious literature and publications.

Sources said an office of Jamat-ud-Dawa situated at 5-Chamberlain Road in Gawalmandi was sealed a few days back.

Reports said Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, Maulana Naseer Hamza, Saifullah Mansoor, director public relations Jamat-ud-Dawa Colonel (retired) Nazir Ahmed had also been detained.

Crackdown in other parts of Punjab

Law enforcement agencies arrested Rajanpur district president of Jamat-ud-Dawa and shifted him to unknown place. Sources told Dawn that Talib Rehman was arrested by law enforcement agencies.

In Sialkot, meanwhile, five offices of the organization were sealed.
