PESHAWAR, Feb 17: The new city police chief has proposed an increase the number of police stations to improve law and order situation in Peshawar.

Talking to journalists at the Police Lines here, Chief of the Capital City Police Habib-ur-Rehman said police stations would be increased in the city on the basis of population and crime situation.

Those police stations where more than 500 first information reports (FIRs) were registered in one year, he added, would be divided into two and another police station set up to control the crime.

He also proposed the establishment of another police line in the city on the patron of Lahore, where Qurban Line and newly-formed Abbas Line were functioning, making the job easy for the police.

"These administrative changes are very important to improve policing in the city," he opined. The CCCP said he would try to improve the image of police in the public eye and for that he would root out corruption form the department.

The police behaviour, he said, would also be improved and as the first step one of the city's police stations would be declared as a model police station where police would work with honesty and professionalism.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
