THE significant and undue delay in the distribution of laptops under the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme for the year 2023 has raised concerns across the community of students. The word of the mouth strongly suggests that many universities in the country have already received the laptops under the programme. However, students at the University of Sargodha have been waiting to get this valuable resource handed to them. This delay has had a detrimental impact on their academic pursuits, particularly in terms of conducting research and accessing online learning material.

As a student in my final semester, I understand the importance of having a laptop for enhancing our educational experience and facilitating our studies. In fact, the laptops provided through the said programme play a crucial role in bridging the widening digital divide, and empowering students to excel in their academic endeavours.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) should take immediate notice of the delay, especially at the University of Sargodha where students have been waiting to get laptops. Action is needed to expedite the process and ensure fairness.
