THERE are certain deficiencies in the curriculum and subject selection at the level of primary schools that deserve careful consideration. The extensive number of lessons, exceeding 15-20 per subject, poses a significant challenge to young students to grasp the content within a single academic year. It is advisable to limit the number of lessons in each subject to a more manageable range of 10-12, allowing the students to effectively comprehend and cover the entire material.

The issue demands the focussed attention of both the government and the curriculum designers involved in the process, as it bears substantial impli-cations. A comprehensive evaluation of the existing educational framework in the province, conducted with an eagle-eyed perspective, is imperative.

By doing so, potential loopholes can be identified and rectified, ensuring a more streamlined and effective learning experience for our young learners.

Furthermore, it is crucial for the government to prioritise the quality of the educational content across the board over its quantity. The quantity can never carry the same value as does academic content. Emphasising the development of high-quality instructional material will enhance the overall educational standard and facilitate a more engaging and productive learning environment for the students.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elemen-tary and Secondary Education Department, in collaboration with relevant stake-holders, should undertake a thorough examination of the curriculum to address these issues, and ensure a comprehensive and practical educational experience.
