LAHORE: Power workers observed the Martyrs Day all over the country on Wednesday under the aegis of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union to pay a tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.In a Lahore rally, the workers urged the prime minister and the energy minister to intervene to stop fatal and non-fatal accidents of the line staff besides recruiting the staff against the posts lying vacant for the last six years.

It was also demanded that the workers should not be transferred during the present inflationary period.

Addressing the rally, union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad urged the workers to observe safety regulations for prevention of fatal accidents and refuse to work in unsafe working conditions.

He also urged the government to check price hike and rising unemployment in the country and introduce economic and social reforms.

On the occasion, it was pledged that the workers would spare no effort to prevent electricity theft and provide better services to consumers in the wider national interest.

The rally was also addressed by Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Rana Shakoor, Muzaffar Mateen, Hassan Munir Bhatti, Nosher Khan, Haji Liaqat, Malik Zahid, Liaqat Ali Gujjar, Rana Shahbaz, Naveed Ashiq Dogar, Amanullah Khan and Rana Shafiq.
