MUZAFFARGARH: The seventh Thal jeep rally will begin in Muzaffargarh and Layyah districts on Nov 17.

Earlier, the Punjab Tourism Department had announced that the rally would begin on Nov 10. The district administration and the tourism department on Wednesday announced the new date through a notification.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Murtaza said the rally was being organised by the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) and the district administration. He said the 180-kilometre track for the jeep rally had been prepared and security plan drawn up.

Mr Murtaza, the focal person of the event, said the first round of the rally would commence on Nov 17 with the registration of cars, allotment of numbers and a navigators’ conference. He said the district government was introducing winter festival besides horse and camel dances, and local theatres’ performances.

There would also be a qualifying round of the rally and an award-winning ceremony would be held at Faisal Stadium, he said. The event would provide recreational activities to the people as a food street would be set up at Head Muhammadwali on Nov 10 and 20.

Layyah Deputy Commissioner Ahmad Khichi said strict security arrangements would be ensured and the track falling in the district had been rehabilitated and examined by his teams.
