LAHORE: A massive fire that broke out near the Kot Lakhpat Railways Station gutted a huge stock of wood early on Thursday.

The fire first erupted at a stall which was housing a huge stock of wood and then spread fast to the adjoining shops. Resultantly, woods worth millions of rupees were gutted despite the fact that 24 special trucks and vans of the Rescue 1122 took part in the operation.

A police official said flames could be seen from a considerable distance and firefighters seemed helpless due to the intensity of the fire but they later managed to control it after hectic efforts of many hours.

The massive fire threw traffic out of gear in the area and traders and residents left the premises to avoid any mishap.

Some video clips of the fire also went viral on social media, prompting the city district government to join the rescue operation.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
