LAHORE: A sessions court on Friday handed down life imprisonment to a man on the charge of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl.

Shahdara police had registered an FIR against Muhammad Mansha during March 2018 under Section 376 of Pakistan Penal Code.

The prosecution presented 13 witnesses and material evidence to establish the charge.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Yasin Mohal announced the verdict and sent the suspect to jail for life and also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on him.

In a statement, Child Protection Bureau Chairperson Sara Ahmad hailed the conviction of the suspect in the rape of the minor girl.

She said the criminals involved in child abuse needed to be dealt with exemplary punishments.
