PESHAWAR: Women hailing from different tribal regions have appreciated the extension of Supreme Court and Peshawar High Court’s jurisdictions to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and described it as a historic decision.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, Nosheen Jamal, head of Khor, a civil society organisation working for women rights, said that the bill regarding extension of jurisdiction of the superior judiciary was a historic step taken by the government, which would enable the tribal people to get the right of appeal in the courts.

Flanked by the Khor office-bearers and tribal women, she said the move would start a new era of development and prosperity in the tribal areas. She said that the extension of superior courts was vital to protect the basic human rights in Fata. She said that the legislation would also decrease the ‘unlimited powers’ held by political agents in tribal regions.
