LAHORE: Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) former chairman and PPP leader Syed Asif Hashmi is likely to return from Dubai on Saturday (tomorrow).

“I have got my travel documents and I will return to Pakistan by the end of this week,” Mr Hashmi told Dawn by phone on Thursday from Dubai.

Earlier, he had blamed the Pakistan Embassy in Dubai for not returning his passport. Hashmi thanked Chief Justice Saqib Nisar for directing the authorities concerned for allowing him to return and face the cases against him. He is facing the cases registered by NAB and FIA with regard to land deals, illegal recruitment etc.

The Interpol had recently rejected the government’s request to arrest Hashmi. The government had reportedly spent over Rs10m in fee to plead its case in Dubai.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
