TAXILA: Six people were killed and eight injured after a passenger van collided with a trailer near Khunda on the Attock-Rawalpindi Road, within the Bassal police station’s limits on Saturday.

Pindigheb sub-divisional police officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Ziauddin told Dawn a Kohat-bound van collided head-on with a trailer.

The accident killed six passengers on board the van, and eight others were injured, with most suffering critical injuries. He said the deceased and the injured were shifted to the Fatehjang Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, from where the injured were referred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi after they received initial treatment in Fatehjang.

Akbar Ali, an eyewitness who was travelling in another vehicle, told Dawn that the accident took place in a remote area, where other motorists launched a rescue operation.

He said the rescuers found it difficult to provide first aid to the victims due to the lack of light in the remote area as well as the rain. The police took charge of rescue operations by the time this report was filed.
