Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Wednesday approved a complete ban on airing of Indian content in Pakistan from October 21, said a statement released by the regulatory authority.
The decision was taken in the 120th meeting of the authority held today in the federal capital.
The federal government had earlier suggested banning airing of Indian content in a tit-for-tat move after Pakistani content was completely banned by India.
The ban will come into effect at 3pm on October 21, and violators will be prosecuted under law, said the statement.
"The ban will come into effect at 3pm on October 21, and radio and television stations which violate the ban will have their licences suspended without a prior show cause notice," said the statement issued from the regulatory authority.
The ban extends to all Indian content on cable and radio being aired in the country.
"Pemra, with the authority vested by the federal government, today announces the cancellation of the one-sided rights given to India by the Pervez Musharraf government," said the Pemra statement.
Earlier in October, Pemra granted Absar Alam the authority to revoke or suspend licences of companies airing Indian content without providing prior notice.
On Aug 31, Pemra had announced that strict action would be taken against the channels airing foreign content more than the prescribed limit and traders selling illegal DTH sets.

please also ban Indian movies.
Thank You Pemra !
Just stop the illegal money laundering to india and illegal imports from India. Nothing will happen by banning Indian channels
I am soooooo happy
he should create tension with India, let India do it, Pakistan should produce its image as peaceful nation.
Please ban Indian movies and all other imported goods as well. Also block any Indian goods going to Afghanistan thru Pakistan. If block is not possible then imposed high transit rates.
This is global world if you put ban on channel people will watch on internet, global village. Disagree with Pemra.
Once again a minority of hate mongers win over millions of peace loving people :-(
Oh for God sake, a common man has got nothing to do with war politics, they just need some cheap entertainment - don't steal it on the name of some nonsense reasons
this will deprive own public from entertainment
Good step.
welldone so happy damage control now let's cleanse our society from the pollutants of Bollywood
Very good.
Ban those commercials as well please
Keep the money within the country
Please also ban Indian commercials and those Pakistani commercials in which Indian actors and models act.
I do not think that this is right. Just because indian media and government is spitting hate we should do the same thing.Let India lose the moral high ground, two three more episodes like BRICS and they will realise that isolating country is not only difficult rather impossible. Banning is no answer to this problem.
So glad .... Who are the people who like Indian content ? We have to start producing substitutes relevant to our market and culture.
Maybe these vacated time slots could be replaced by syndicated repeat dramas and Quiz Shows from PTV which were hits in the 60-70s, such as:
1) Taleem-e-Balighan 2 Ghuda kei Basti 3) Alif Noon 4) Kasuiti
I have fond memories of these simple shows and were enjoyed by the entire country!
@Khan we have already banned indian hoods from going to Afghanistan. For quite some time now
Thanks PEMRA.
Indeed very good and patriotic decision. I would also urge to ban all commercials which have indian actors in them.
These movies were inappropriate for Pakistani culture to start with, and should have been either censored or never allowed to corrupt our youth in the first place.
THE ONLY good decision by Pemra! This thing with India shouldn't have happened between the 2 neighbours but this ban on TV is a blessing in disguise for sure.
Ban everything from India!
Love it. Love it. Love it.
Thank you PEMRA.
And let's be vigilant and keep an eye out for Indian Pigeons along Pakistani-Indian border too!
Thank You Pemra .
good ????
No this will damaged people to people contact. let Pakistan give peace and harmony. Pemra please do not do this type of thing.
This is such a violation of individual liberty. If people don't want to see Indian content then they can voluntarily do so. Why no ban healthcare and life saving drugs from India too? Freedom doesn't come by forcing all to not watch a cartoon made in India but by allowing one to watch it no matter how bad it must make us feel.
Lack of entertainment can cause people to turn in to other illegal activities, please beware.
The concept of "banning" is from a bygone era. In the age of internet you cannot ban anything. Creating alternate narratives is a plausible option. But, the rulers are too lazy to think creatively. Unenforceable bans are nothing more than a farce, to say the least.
India has started this and went too far so this reaction was expected. It's time to be patriotic.
Thanks Perma,
Lets see how many days you survive, as people will find many ways to watch quality entertainment which pakisthan cant build
Good move. This is not tit-for-tat issue but to be on same page as India is. Current Indian government has hyped up hate climate in public for political purposes and if Pakistan doesn't do anything then it is equally bad. Movies are entertainment not basic necessities.
nice move.
Thank you PEMRA.
150 % Support this action. BAN BAN BAN.
No winner on this ban. It will hurt Pakistan more than it will hurt India.
This is stupid they want to kill the business
@Khan ...already goods to Afganistan can not be sent by India
Childish behavior. The problem is between the leaders of the two countries, and common people are made to suffer in the name of nationalism and patriotism. This is not patriotism, but total stupidity. I understand that India is stooping low, but we Pakistanis should have taken the moral high ground and shown our magnanimity.
If there is one thing that I have learned in the 50 years of my life is that you never lose in the long run by taking the high road. Rolling up your sleeves and getting down and dirty may give one instant satisfaction, but you always regret it later on.
Right decision
@Prateik thanks!
thanks pemra. great move
Well done pemra.
@asad the ban entails everything Indians
@kashif turn your TV off and go outside that's best entertainment we are blessed with the best topography and natural beauty in the world
All these are happening after Uri terror attack in Kashmir and subsequent Indian claim of retaliatory surgical strike... This PEMRA action will lead to illegal movie watching on both sides...
@Brahmdagh Our local talent should be developed. Our own models and actors should earn from these opportunities, instead we give money to Indians
Loser govt in South Asia can only announce bans.
This Kashmir issue will continue to create hostility between the two nations for ever. Who will benefit from this?
What about Netflix, Iflix, Tapmad, HBO Go etc etc and all the different content online. This is highly discriminatory of PEMRA to stop Pakistani cable operators from showing Indian content whereas the above foreign owned companies have a free hand. They don't even pay any PEMRA fees or taxes.
If PEMRA doesn't stop Indian and foreign content on internet it will be doing a great injustice to local cable operators.
Good Decision. Good going.
@Vinod
We don't need vulgarity. You can show it to your family
very good decision. God bless Pakistan
Very good PEMRA , it will teach Indian a lesson or two.
@Mehak Gulab I doubt that Indians watch Pakistani content. Zee Zindgi which carried Pakistani dramas struggled for ratings. Looks like there are few takers for Pakistani content in India. So Indians will feel the pressure, I doubt it.
Good move India made billions from Pakistan and then use money to fire on us and Kashmiris.
I would also request the overseas Pakistani community to take make such efforts on Individual level.
this will be costly for the people since anyway they will see......internet or many ways to see.now we see better indian channels in west pakistan
Meanwhile it is also noteworthy that Indian government has not officially banned anything related to Pakistan. Only some private organizations have done it.
@Feroze Danish: If you could have, you would already have had a substitute!!
Fair enough!
Ban pirated indian movie
Show maturity both India and Pakistan, this is the age of the internet, of instant news, when you want it.
Can anybody ban river flow & wind flow across the borders. Aam aadmi wants peace food shelter health education & jobs.
But what will we show on our channels and especially play on Radio now? Do we have enough content? If we had enough, likes of Fawad and Rahat wouldn't be looking for greener pastures in India.
@kashif I totally agree with you if it's happening on both sides. On the one hand, they are banning our actors, singers, artists etc. from working in their country, they don't air a single Pakistani content on their channels then why should Pakistanis be bombarded with Indian content. Have some self respect, if not for yourself then at least for your country.
Thank you pemra..
Those who are happy should know that pakistan only account 0.5% of total india trade in world...banning TV channels have hardly influence.
This is pure narrow mindedness. Indian govt hasn't banned any Pakistani content, however, private individuals have taken some actions voluntarily.
Good decision.
Wonderful.
Cut all communications, & build a giant wall in between and mine the border.
As far as Indian movies and songs are concerned, this is purely a symbolic gesture, as they will get to Pakistan by hook or by crook (they even did in the Zia era). It won't be surprising if the only real effect of this ends up being making some people in the black market wealthier.
This is the first real action in the right direction. Now, we must also ban all Indian songs and advertisements showing Indian actors in multinational products.
Very nice go ahead...
Good decisions, stay on it. It is enough and committee should further deal with steel hands while those do not obey, should go behind the bars for years.
illegal must be banned .but it will not work in Pakistan..
Good Riddance!
@obaid Atleast appreciate the first step in right direction
We are people of Indus valley civilization and how long we can hide this fact by such ban? Let the common culture prevail
Thank you Pemra. Pleaes make this ban for forever
@Vinod - good comment,
@Mike London indian content is a small part of entertainment. Bollywood movies are liked here but that not all we have. local drams and music is way more superior to indian content and even local movies are doing pretty well.
@Adnan Our local talent gets harmed with bans. Now we end up looking substandard content.
I thought Pemra had some intellectuals some people with wide far- seeing visionaries looking for better cultural relations between two countries.
finally. Good move..
Most important is to ban Indian movies as well.
Nawaz Sharif just falling into a trap. This is another knee jerk reaction. Hope better sense prevails.
I think Pak should not go down this road. If India is behaving immaturely then it does not mean that Pak have to do the same. Pak should keep clear of this Indian leadership petty politics and maintain a good relations with Indian people because as Michelle Obama rightly said that when the go low we go high.
Pak should make decisions based on what's best in its interests and not what Indian leadership is doing because like Gandhi said eye for an eye will leave the whole world blind.
Knee jerk actions!
"The federal government had earlier suggested banning airing of Indian content in a tit-for-tat move after Pakistani content was completely banned by India." This is 100% wrong. Just now I saw PTV through Net. I read DAWN everyday in Tamil Nadu state.
When the members of two next door families who always aspired to live with mutual love, respect, unity and harmony become helpless hostage of the anti-neighbors and anti-peace policies of their belligerent heads of families, all such unfriendly bans becomes the fate of both family members. What types of the Heads of next door families will keep their peace loving family members under constant chain of fear, insecurity and hostility from their next door neighbors. If you make friendship from the people of all over world but continue never ending hatred and hostility with the next door neighbors how could your family members ever live with peace and amity? You do not need the brain of a rocket scientist to understand this very simple logic?
Pakistan should keep people to people contact and cross cultural exchanges open as it brings people of the two country closer and it is through people that J&K issue will and can be resolved. This is 21st century and what we have learn from the 20th century is that there are no friends but intersts and every country needs each other for her benefits. Therefore, what Indian leadership is doing is immature and stupid so please don't follow the same path.
I make apple to all pakistanis abroad should stop bying all Indian product to let them know we are one unite of pakistan no matter were we live,
@Shah
billions ? are u joking indian movies are made of indian audience
it makes no difference to india if Pakistanis watch & no
Pakistani Music, Dramas, Shows, and Movies are far better then Indian. All our entertainment is made for our own audience which reflects our culture and our Religion. I live in USA we never watch any Indian Movie or go to any Indian show, my family love to watch Pakistani shows and Dramas, and we only have Pakistani Channels. My children don't know anything about Indian movies and I am so proud of this.
@lovethyneigbour even if it hurts?
now guys ready for closing down cinema halls. loosing jobs in entertainment industries and even pak movies make will suffer as there wont be enough cinema halls for showcasing the movies... it will go back to 80 s..
@Bihari Dear our culture is of more worth than billions of dollars
As of today Indian govt. did not officially ban Pakistani actors. It is the decision of private channels and movie theaters . Let the Pakistani cable operators decide volenterly if they want to ban or not.
This is the wrong thing to do. This not solve anything.
In the words of Michelle Obama, when they go low, you go high!
Good for pak
Excellent decision. Dumping of cheap Indian content had severely damaged local media industry. Now producers will invest in local industry creating jobs for local talent.
But Why are we punishing our own Shahrukh , Slaman , Mahesh Bhatt, Karan Johar etc. ?
Tit for tat where all immaturity lies
when they went low we should have gone hi. now we are both low
Stupid decisions by Pak authorities. Stop fighting like ammeture bullies both Ind n Pak . Stop it yaar. Focus on economy n health, development. How long this will continue at least. Watch each other's movies, drama. Promote harmony.
Good move
Childish move. Helps no way and hurts none
Pakistani content and channels is not banned in india.correct ur info
great decision,
Indian government has not banned the pakistani risks or content. Some fringe political parties have threatened violence if movies that has pakistani actors are released. Only yesterday the Indian home minister said that the government is open to issue visa to any pakistani actor.
Thanks .. where are those people who are commenting that India is doing childish act...
Nothing will happen. Every sort of Indian content would move to readily available DVDs
in a result traffic on internet will increased and also boom smuggling of CD/DVD. people have right to watch what they want to watch so this ban is not right nor applicable.this is the reverse gear for entertainment industry.
Not a good news for entertainers from both sides.
Bad decision. Bans increase problems.
@Seedoo - I like your thinking. You have guts and maturity to think independently.
Indian Citizen.
Thank you PEMRA.
such a great news thank you pemra
@Shah - How when majorly pirated movies are available and seen.
What about indian adds.
this decision taken in 120 meeting by pemra for non airing indian channals is somewhat satisfactory due to the fact that we should promote our own media channels and destabilized film industry in which 100 thousand pakistani livelihood were connected.
@Raju Yes just like you deprived your public of some quality Pakistani talent
glad to know
Please ban , movies , dramas and ads too . Complete full ban !
Excellent news. This should be enforced properly.
Events happening on both sides of the border are ominous which may lead to an untoward happening in the near future.
@Seedoo - Totally agree with you. Two wrongs don't make a right. Nonsensical ban!
@Asad Farooqui For all those who feel sorry for this situation please ask the same question from Indian govt., film and tv. professionals, see what language they are speaking all these years there were no Pakistani movie, TV. serial were allowed in India on a same level as they were enjoying business in Pakistan. Like the saying "its all about economy" Long live Pakistan. .
In the current scenario it's better to back off for both the countries for some time,Indian government must take back mfn immediately.
It is a sad decision. This action on the part of PEMRA will deprive Pakistanis to partake in and enjoy the Indian movies, radio talks etc. Also there is no possibility of any opening in any Indian industry for the Pakistani artists and as a direct consequence of this action,Karan Johar and others will not be able to show their movies to the Indians and Pakistanis as long as this decision holds.
Best decision
A very good decision by PEMRA. thank you.
Childish actions by grown up people....shameful act by both countries. Hate has no boundaries.
Total blockhead of every thing from India, please. No transit, no nothing.
fantastic. Thanks a much from India !!!!. next step ban Indian movies like we are banning your actors.
ban them and watch Maula-jatt 24/7 repeat telecasts.. rofl
Only some poor people will lose their jobs. Cinema houses will close and many poor will lose their livelihood. People will use internet to watch anything.
How would you ban internet and content available on internet? How would Pakistan's entertain themselves? I think this is childish.
Pakistan makes less than ten movies in the whole year. And you want to compete with Bollywood.
@saeed ali paracha Pakistan, a peaceful nation? It is not going to happen, brother....
It is a step in wrong direction; in my humble opinion.
@asad Will the Pakistani awam be able to survive without Indian movies? We are so much used to seeing them that awam will not like its ban....
I was conceived in India and was born in Pakistan 13 days after my parents' arrival in Karachi. The food and the water they consumed had Indian Contents. I received my nourishment from my mother. So I have quite a bit of Indian contents in me. Will I be banned for that reason? I suggest find a way to work it out and stop the tit for tat, reaction over action to show the strength. Sooner or later Uncles from West will come in their blue suits and red ties, standing in the middle, holding hands of two PMs with a wide grin and proclaiming the the success of their Mediator role.
Two Neighbors should Negotiate, Show the Wisdom; and Imagine the Peace!
Nothing new but politics and once again common man does not get anything from ban
very good. Thanks from India !!!
Over the top reaction
Dear Pakistani Friends,
First of all, Govt of India didn't impose any ban on any pakistani contents/actors/films. It is few weak parties trying to gain some brown point out of prevailing situation.
Second, As PEMRA took this decision; it looks like a knee jerk and immature reaction from govt of Pakistan. Morally, India still on higher ground :)
This is a tit for tat move and little late. Indian film industry were worried about some fanatic mob creating trouble in the theater where movies involving Pak actors are screened. Although this is not healthy, one can understand that they do not want to risk their investments. And this was immediately after the Uri attack. But things are cooled off and people had moved on. Now, why would Pak ban the contents - whats the rationale. If it just because Indian film industry avoided to cast the Pak actors? Isnt this little childish?
@kaliraja thangamani They also can see our content on the Internet.
Why October 21st, why not immediately?
Piracy will raise its ugly head.
I live in Lahore. On my TV, I get India's DD without cable. I think anyone living in Lahore can just tune into India's DD by using small entenna. How can that be stopped?
Thanks for that, bollywood was unfortunately reviving pakistan's film industry by fulfilling the 70%demand. Thank you so much
Brilliant move. Also ban their movies forever.
@Shah .... well said for India... who started these bans on cricket, Kabadi and actors.
Look at lavish style of Pemra, water, cold drinks, tea and snacks for a meeting???
Better late than never.
If this helps Pakistan its a good move.
I want to make few points 1) this is an official ban by government of pakistan but there is no official government ban on pakistani actors by indian govt. 2)the ban on pakistani actors are by film association and massive opposition of people , its called unity , its not a government ban 3) not showing pakistan's content by zindagi channel is taken by owner of zee media subhash chandra , who is bearing 60crores loss on his own will, govt never said to take off pakistani content
The nature ofcthe law is right to much ext ent but you see the situation of Lollywood not any big development and movie is available bafter almost year from itd day of releasing.
Thanks a lot for saving our generations from indian content.
Long awaited move, waiting for ban on ads as well
Bravo Perma, Pakistanis should boycott everything Indian. The people of Pakistan should show their patriotism by not buying or viewing or traveling to India for shopping. People stand up as a nation and show some character
Great news
Also you tube/daily motion and other video sites must be approached to stop Pakistani people from accessing Indian content.
@Noor you should lecture modi first
@Adnan .... Brother when are you giving money to Indians..instead we are the people who welcome your actors in Bollywood whole heartly... And Indian government has never imposed any ban on any pakistanies actor or movie..
It's a good move. Pakistan mostly watches content from Bollywood which is either terrible or plagiarized from elsewhere.
Please also ban our movies. It will only harm you.
dont worry india !!!ppl start loving chinese movie very soon and ur market will go
Eye for an eye
Excellent - best news of the day. A befitting response to Indian acts. Government should stop all import & export from India. Thank you PEMRA you have really elevated your position.
@Raju: Honestly speaking indian media stuff don't really entertain.
have fun pakistan......i really enjoy your world class entertainment ....rofl
Mixed feelings about this. A lot of people will suffer in pakistan from this move -- Businesses are run from the brain , not heart.
Of course , the people making the decision will not suffer. Its the common people on both sides who suffer from this childish behaviour on both sides.
@asad yeah! Pls do. Indians have enough people of their own to make their movies a hit. Besides, Bangladeshis, Nepalese, SriLankans, Africans, W. Indians love to watch Indian flicks too. So loss of Pakistan will not affect Indian film industry at all
Ridiculous step. There are many venues to watch any foreign movies or programs through internet, CDs, etc. India has a vast network and market for its movies and TV programs and has nothing to loose. The losers will be the Pakistani public deprived of entertainment.
Instead of tit-for-tat move. Pakistan should have baned Indian media content including movies which are play high roll in corruping our societies and youths for long time in this Islamic country.
@Chursy there is no hate mongering in this step! for over a decade we gave India open access to Pakistani market and they have failed to do same. this will strengthen our entertainment industry
Suits regressive elements on both sides of the border. After all, people-to-people contact will dilute the hatred, which they will never want. But the common man will have to put up with the circus.
Thanks God. Finally We saw some better step coming out of the elephant''s mouth(Pemra). Wishing the accomplishment in true sense. Thumbs down to Big Boss game. Finally the headache is gonna be over!!
@Raju Please find some better entertainment rather than cheap Indian movies. We have a better content, I guess. Wake up.
Is this the final ban? Or another ban before the final one?
How can they live from October 22 ? I pity you guys.
People can live without television and films I'm sure. Yet the question is how much demand for Indian content is there in Pakistan and can these bans be truly effective.
Great job. Should have happened years ago.
@Skeptic : Please can you explain or anyone else i.e what is Pakistani culture?
What are we trying to achieve? This is unnecessary. It shows you are weak, insecure. These tactics belong to era of 80's and 90's.
@Desi Bhai Please can you enlighten us all how this will hurt Pakistan?
Thanks, please ban Movies too
On one hand I want to say please don't stoop to low and childish Indian levels but then again nothing good comes out of Indian entertainment so we won't miss it anyways. Good riddance.
Watch more Turkish soap operas.
Regardless of the reason or whether it has any impact on stopping this insane behavior by the Indian government and its media, I am just glad that the Bollywood filth is not airing in the country any longer.
a step towards showing some dignity!
Thank You Pemra !
@Aftab --Indus valley civilization was destroyed by modern day Indians who call them self Aryans/Birhamans/vedic hindu etc. So Indus civilization YES, Aryan /hindu civilization NO.
Good Move
please also ban tomato, onion and indian origin sub standard qualities textile chemicals.
Should have done quite earlier, good step taken
Piracy business will flourish.
How about watching on YouTube and other websites as every Indian contents are made available on the YouTube and several websites after air/telecast.
What about banning Indian ads on electronic media & every where in Pakistan.
Great. .... Some heads in power deciding how the common citizen will live. .... Now. ...please don't forget to ban Internet as well. Indian tv content is available there.
I fully support this ban. Thanks a lot Pemra. As an Indian I must say we do not want to have any sort of interaction with Pakistanis. It's good for both countries.
Finally, they wake up. Should have been done years ago.
@Asad Farooqui who cares, many simply don't want to see Indian rubbish on our screens. Those who go to Internet let them, those are few and far between.
@Zafar Ahmed
Easier said than done !!
That's Good news, thanks from india
No Bollywood songs.. enjoy Pashton, Sindhi songs on radio.
This will fail just like the ban on alcohol.
The only way that Pakistan can do something, is to erase the thought that there is a country on our eastern borders. Have complete cut-off with that country. No trade, NO transit, do not even acknowledge their existence. Seal the eastern border from Gujrat till Kashmir. That country has done enough damage to Pakistan. Because of that country, we are being scrutinized all over the world and labelled as TERRORISTS.
OMG ...it's heartbroken news..india lost its thousands of rupee revenue.
Dear pakistanis
There were no official statement from India to block anything from Pakistan. It's only private organizations who did that. We have one important sector called Healthcare and if we block that it will be of chaos. There are thousands of people including small children's from Pakistan who are coming for heart operation mainly to Mumbai and chennai. There was one incident during Kargil war that it treatment should be stopped. But government told not to do because people are innocent. Also before couple of months there was a girl from Pakistan for which heart transplantation had been done given by an Indian in malar hospital chennai. Don't have enemity blindly with people. Believe peace
Doesn't matter.. who cares
With CPEC on full speed, Pakistan should incorporate more Chinese films and serials - its a nice way to learn a new language.
@MARATHA more like 30 crore just for Sultan.....
PEMRA has banned the Indian contents because it is going to launch DTH in Pakistan. If chairman is sincere in banning Indian contents then he should also ban Indian ads on cable.
Hope you people have learnt Chinese language to watch and bear Chinese entertainment.
Thank God. Thanks to PEMRA . Lately but lastly . BTW who on earth would that crazy stupid content from India anyway. Never Ending, useless crap.
100 % Right decision. The indian content is cheap and below standards.
Indian actors should be banned from all commercials as well, the likes of karina and katrina etc are paid whopping 50 million for commercials.
@akil..may be bro. but sultant's earning is more than 300cr. would it shove Bollywood ??
@Mahmood I believe that we have had enough of repeats from the past...
How much loss this will cause to Indian TV Channels ?
@Noor the powers that be are living in the age where they still believe in being able to prevent people from getting the content they want to get.
Pakistani content is not banned by Indian government. Pakistani actors are also free to come to India. It's only some organizations which are threatening or banning. Choice of watching or not watching should be personal. Those who want; will see it anyway. Please do not miss Ae Dil Hai Mushkil with Fawad Khan in an important role. Because of your banning, his creativity will go to waste; at least superficially. Legitimate business will suffer. Pirates will have a field day. After 3-4 months this ineffective ban will go anyway.
I see many here criticizing ban on one pretext or the other. I think irrespective of our relations with India, all foreign channels MUST be banned. One that it is a matter of national pride, second that the ban is triggered by India, third that patriotism is however a priority over entertainment and fourthly, Bollywood and Indian dramas do not commensurate with our cultural values. Even if you do not see those channels, you can not stop children from watching them and the onslaught of their impact. BE A NATION. There was always a better life with just one PTV entertainment. People were more close to each other, values were much better. Just improve your own content. That is the only way
An alternative to Indian content is import and telecast Chinese contents with sub-titles or dubbing.
This is just a small initiative i hope it'll be a long lasting decision and not take on the basis of current on going tussle but it's take because their content isn't in accordance with our cultural values and religious beliefs. Hardest thing and to do will be banning their products. And it should be followed by banning Hollywood and other conflicting contents airing on Tv's as well ...
Thank God. Finally. Let's have faith in ourselves. Thank you Pemra.
This is childish. Regulating certain contents based on a clearly defined policy is acceptable in my view but targetting a specific country is childish. We should not follow Modi's foot steps or else we are feeding into his rhetoric of hate and are sending wrong message to millions of progressive Indians.
Good riddance. Right decision not only in the context of Indian ban on Pakistani artists, but also in a general sense: it will get rid of Pakistani common man's dependence on cheap Indian content and it'll create job opportunities for our talented artists.
Please ban all Indian artists. Also please ban all Indian commercials including those commercials starring Indian celebrities.
Please also ban Indian movies in cinema, Indian commercials and those Pakistani commercials in which Indian actors and models act. Save our young generation from Indian culture attack
Please also ban Indian Advertisements on Pakistani channels.
We stand with our actors and singers - if they don't have place in Bollywood then Bollywood movies have no place in Pakistan.
There are thousands of Pakistanis who come for treatment in India. Many are given concessions will you ban them too.
@Sandy, No, we don't ban anything. You Indians are the first to ban everything. You have banned, Chillis, Tomatos, Cotton and God knows how many petty things.
@MARATHA Millions of US Dollars which Indian movie makers earn from Pakistan is pure bonus for them as they don’t spend a penny for that income. Don’t forget that Pakistanis abroad form a sizeable audience for Indian movies and if they keep away then it will surely dent ticket sales.
Great move by Pakistanis nobody deserves the misfortune of watching saas bahu serials....
@Anwar Amjad "Don’t forget that Pakistanis abroad form a sizeable audience for Indian movies and if they keep away then it will surely dent ticket sales." Patriotic Pakistanis should not watch Indian movies whether at home or abroad.
@TKhan Beautiful thoughts. We are grateful and fortunate to have sane voices on both the sides of the border. For the last 30 years, I have been praying and working in a modest way to have friendship on both sides. We have to learn to be good neighbours. One day, we are sure, tensions will wither away and peace will prevail; we will behave as normal human beings, not as enemies of each other. Punjabis on both sides of the border are perhaps big losers of this hate mongering. political campaign. Long live our friendship!
In India no government body has banned any content. Pakistani television shows were available until a few days back until Zee themselves stopped it. Goyal said he is not going to renew the contract even if it makes good business sense.
In India there is a debate with people having views on both sides Ban or not to ban.
Ban. Ban. Ban.
Shouldnt we take the moral high road and set examples for Indians? Arent we Pakistanis way better than India?
Business will just go underground. Nothing will change.
Excellent move by PEMRA.
Great job PEMRA.
@Temo Shanko yes they are going through Iran
Very good move by Pemra... I think we should ban all Indian Movies in Pakistan and Try to promote Pakistani Films and Culture... And also try to minimize the usage of Indian Products ...
@Laughing Buddha We all Indians are happy to hear this good news from PEMRA. We appreciate and thank you! Now India is relax and we have all other rights to ban Pakistan content.
I think there are more important issues facing the country. Why not focus the effort on that ?
Thank godness, please dont remove the ban ever in life, really sick of grabbage movies, songs & channel shows & dramas, Pakistani & Turkish content is way better along with British American stuff.
Is Indians movies with Pakistani actors is also banned ?
@Mike London , are you over with Brexit?
@Anis some sensible mind in Pakistan.
@Anwar Amjad who said that Pakistan abroad form sizeable audience to watch Indian movies? that's false. Indian audiences are vast in population than Pakistan population abroad. Even if Pakistan audience don't watch Indian movies; India will not suffer any dent in sales ticket. India knows to recover that dent easily if so.
I am so happy now i enjoy very much in English. Please ban the cheap entertainment movies.
india have never allowed pakistani channels in their country.
india has never allowed any pakistani channel to be on aired.pakistan was very soft to india.
@RIZ it was needed. Needed to be patriotic from our side as well.
@Khan There is no trade between Afghanistan and India that goes through Pakistan. I agree stop all trade with India. Actually, India granted most favored nation status to Pakistan decade ago and Pakistan has not reciprocated. This ban will even the playing field.
@Azeem Siddiqui Yes we Indians support 200% ban on this action. Its good news for India because our Bollywood industry will then learn permanent lesson not to engage with any Pakistan talent anymore. So this is a big achievement to India.
@Atta Ayaz What culture are you talking about? An Indian Muslim friend of mine was looking for a match for his daughter and only proposals came from Pakistani boys. He was distressed as he felt that Punjabis have no culture.
@Usman Nasir Censorship does not work in these modern times. People will get whatever they want at home through internet.
@asad What does it achieve? Pakistani market is too small. It will only deprive Pakistani viewers.
@Ali Janvri more important it will create job opportunities for our young; talented and good looking India actors. India has never offered any cheap entertainment. But in your view if this is so then people in Pakistan bear cheap mindset for watching it. People with high moral ground abstain from such art piece. India do not need certification of "Quality" from Pakistan audience as they do not form sizeable mass..Prince William wife Kate has acknowledge of her fondness and likings for Indian movies and are big fan of Indian actors; What bigger and better certification India need for our Bollywood than this?
The ban on Indian content on tv and cable should continue even when the relations with India normalize and Indian movies are allowed in theaters due to vulgarity. People go to cinema houses by choice but it is difficult to control the content at home.
pls do it and stick to it we also dont want our cheap producers inviting pakistani just for money
If you want to ban Indian content... Please go ahead and ban, please don't miline our country image and do flash propaganda saying India have baned Pakistani contents.... Zee network has boycotted Pakistani serial... That's about it.
@Abbas People have freedom to choose. Nobody is forced to consume content one do not like.
Is Pakistan going to stop importing Vegatables from India?
Too late! Indian culture has already polluted minds of million of Pakistanis.
India does not need any business with Pakistan. It will be better to close off the border completely and have no interaction. All these years Pakistan only exported terrorists to India and bought vegetables. Now after India stops the water flow, the real pain of the conflict will be felt.
Indian Tv and Cinema has more market in the world than what is in Pakistan. Giving us a balanced reason to ban Pak artists in India if you still do so.
So now everyone will view Chinese serial and movie. Come on
If PTI wins elections in Pakistan and Imran Khan becomes the Prime minister some sense will prevail and India and Pakistan may become friends and live like America & Canada. I will pray for it.
The ban should be complete. Even the pirated copies need be banned. It would be evident shortly who stands to lose the most.
@Shah Not correct . Bollywood excluding non-hindi movie Industry in India is around 1.65B $ biz and Pakistan contributes less than 10m $. This move may hurt Pakistan more.
I dont understand when hollywood movies are shown in Pakistan do you people insist on having Pakistani artists in them. Then why equate bollywood movie release in pakistan vis a vis pakistani artists presence in these films .If you want take it as it is if not its okay. Inspite all these concepts of vulgarity that is being highlighted by various readers Bollywood movies click in pakistan and hence promoters and exhibitors have started investing in more cine plexes.
Every industry takes time to build. In your current state you may need another 15 to 20 years to come to a suistenance level in terms of quality and quantity. Until then how many cine plexes will survive and how many jobs would have been lost. The only people who will benefit will be the peddlers of pirated CDs. In the internet too you can subscribe to any channel and watch the Indian programmes.
@Skeptic , brother could you tell us what do you mean by Pakistani culture? And how different is it from Indian culture?
gud step
@Feroze Danish Your culture is not different from India and do not think your culture is of Arabs, they do not treat you like their own country men.
Still hundreds of free to air Indian Set-Top-Boxes are still smuggled daily via borders.
Finally long awaited decision is taken. Please go ahead with banning of local Indian Ads. Keep it up.
Thank you Pemra! to save, an upcoming generation of Pakistan,
Very good move .
thank pemra
@Kamran Ahmed
Yeah now you would have to deal with Turkish content :D
Loss to pakistan viewers only. Indian normally do not see Pakistani drama or movie.
Thanks, This banned should not be removed like youtube ban. Both nation citizen happy by this.
