SAHIWAL: Three members of a family died in a road accident near village 185/9-L on Lahore-Multan motorway in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Muhammad Ashraf, his wife Najma Bibi and brother-in-law Ramzan were en route to Sahiwal on a motorcycle when they were hit by a trailer.

Witnesses confirmed the commuters were hit by a large truck from the rear side that sped off from the scene.

Rescue 1122 sources said all three relatives died on the spot.

Dera Rahim police handed over the bodies to their family and registered a first information report against the unidentified driver.

ROADS: The second and third phases of Khadim-i-Ala Punjab Rural Roads Programme in Sahiwal division will cost Rs1.38 billion and Rs1.52 billion, respectively, during the current financial year 2016-17.

A total of 32 roads with a length of over 300km will be constructed before June 2017 from villages to main markets of the surrounding cities. These roads will be constructed at various locations in Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Okara districts.

This was stated by Commissioner Babar Hayat while talking to the media in his office on Wednesday. Under the second phase, eight roads will be constructed in Sahiwal for Rs484 million, five in Okara for Rs656 million and four in Pakpattan for Rs361 million, while in the third phase seven in Sahiwal for Rs505 million, four in Okara for Rs551 million and four in Pakpattan for Rs333 million will be constructed.

Development and Finance Director Habib Jillani said budget had already been allocated and district governments concerned asked to maintain quality of construction work as per tenders.
