OKARA: A smuggler was killed in an encounter with Rangers on the Pakistan-India border near Allah Yaar Shaheed check-post on Friday night.

The Rangers were on routine patrolling when they saw three smugglers entering the Pakistan territory from the Indian side. As Rangers challenged the smugglers, they started firing on them. In a retaliatory fire, a smuggler, later identified as Mazhar Wattoo alias Mazhri of Rehman Salloka village, was killed instantly while his two accomplices fled towards the Indian side.

The Rangers also recovered 58 bottles of Indian liquor, two 9MM pistols and some bottles of perfumes.

The Basirpur police have registered a case on the report of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Iqbal.

GETS DEATH: An additional sessions judge handed down capital punishment to an accused in a murder case on Saturday.

The judge acquitted his co-accused, Naseeran Bibi, for a lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, convict Allah Ditta had shot dead Ikram of Chah Bhatti over a marriage issue near Allawaly village in Gogera.
