KARACHI: Some miscreants attacked a house in Defence Housing Authority with a grenade in the early hours of Thursday morning, which caused minor damages to the property but triggered fear and panic in the residents, officials said.

The family were asleep when the grenade was thrown on the bungalow (53/1, Street 17) located on Khayban-i-Badban, said South-SSP Saqib Ismail Memon.

The incident occurred at around 4:15am.

The explosion caused minor cracks in a wall and damaged some window panes.

Police and Bomb Disposal Squad personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information about the explosion on the Madadgar-15 helpline.

The SSP-South said the exact motive of the attack could not be ascertained immediately. Mr Memon added that they were not even sure that if the home was the target. He said the owner of the house, Hashim, a young man who had recently returned from an African country was living with his ailing parents.

He told the police that he had no enmity with anyone nor he had received any threat from any quarter.

The police officer said that a secret camera was installed at the home but it had no recording system.

The Darakhshan police registered an FIR against unknown suspects on Hashim’s complaint under Section 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, 7-ATA (Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997) and 3 /4 Explosive Act.
