BAHAWALPUR: Railways Minis­ter Khawaja Saad Rafique has warned opposition not to cross the red line in its drive against the government and said that terms of reference over the Panama leaks probe would be redrafted in the light of the Supreme Court’s letter.

He was addressing a gathering of PML-N workers and office-bearers after unveiling a plaque for the reconstruction of the Bahawalpur Railway Station here on Sunday evening. Earlier in the day, he spoke to members of the Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Rafique said that despite the opponents’ criticism, the government would continue its development work in all sectors for the welfare of the common man.

The minister bitterly criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan, who, he said, should now stop the ‘drama’ of demanding the resignation of the prime minister over Panama leaks scandal when not only he himself but his aides also owned offshore companies.

He told Imran Khan that if Mian Nawaz Sharif was removed from the office of the prime minister, he (Imran) could not become a prime minister and in that case someone else could be the country’s next prime minister.

The minister also criticised PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who, he said, could not seek accountability of Mr Sharif.

“Instead, Bilawal should talk to his father Asif Ali Zardari who took over the PPP after Benazir Bhutto’s death and destroyed it within a few years.”

Minister of State for Education and Professional Training Baleeghur Rehman, provincial minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar, MNA Begum Parveen Masood Bhatti and MPA Dr Syed Waseam Akhtar also spoke on the occasion and welcomed the conversion of Bahawalpur Railway Station into a model railway station.

On the occasion railway’s Senior General Manager Javed Anwar Bobak said that remodelling work would cost the PR Rs280 million and it would be carried out in two phases.
